ADVENTURE HARLEY DAVIDSON: http://shrsl.com/?~azfx

We get a ton of emails and question on our YouTube Channel about pairing a Bluetooth headset “directly” with the Harley Davidson Boom Box Infotainment system. We have done much work behind the scenes testing and researching this matter for all you Bikaholics out there. Stop searching the messy & confusing motorcycle forums. We have the answers right here to all your questions. We get our information from many trusted sources & the biker community.

The Answer:

The answer to the question is, no. Currently, you can’t “directly” pair any current brand of wireless Bluetooth headset with the Harley Boom Box. Harman Kardon, the creator of the Boom Box, did not build the Boom Box to accept what’s called an HSP, headset profile. They only built it with what’s called an HFP, hand’s free profile, to sync with devices such as smartphones and MP3 players. My prediction is the current versions of the Boom Box will never have an HSP. Maybe a future model of the Boom Box will have it.

Understand, the Boom Box was specifically designed to work with a wired headset only. That really doesn’t bother me, because the good quality wired headsets work great and there are no headaches that go along with Bluetooth syncing. It is just one wire that plugs into your 7 pin communications port anyways.

If a future Bluetooth headset that “directly” pairs with the Harley Boom Box becomes available we will certainly let you know.

Hacks & Work Arounds: (Limitations with Functionality)

The main hack is to go out and purchase a Sena 3.5mm stereo jack to 7 pin DIN cable for 1998 & later Harley Davidson touring. Second, you can purchase a Bluetooth stereo transmitter. Third, you need a wireless Bluetooth headset. And for around $300-$400 you can then push whatever is coming out of the Boom Box to the Bluetooth headset, via the Bluetooth transmitter. (Complete list of specific items and prices below)

Understand, you can’t go back into the Boom Box and give voice commands with this completely wireless Bluetooth headset hack. You can only hear your music and turn by turn directions in your headset. You can hear your CB if you touring models has that.

We even contacted Sena Technologies directly and they are less than eager to claim their SMH10 headset is made or works well with the Boom Box system. They even steered us towards just getting an appropriate wired headset for real functionality. We published our email to Sena and their response at the bottom of this post.

Note: Be cautious about what Bluetooth transmitter you purchase as some only transmit in mono.
